The National Jukebox is an online collection from the Library of Congress. It gives listeners access to historical recordings, including music and spoken material from the early recording industry.
For a different route into the archive, the Library’s Citizen DJ project connects historical sound with remixing. Its Tracks from the Stacks page pairs new compositions with the source recordings that informed them.
Try a small listening experiment
Here is a small listening experiment: choose one unfamiliar recording, listen through without skipping, then follow a performer, instrument, or recording date into a second selection. Treat the archive as a place to wander rather than a list to finish.
Listening access and reuse permission are different things. Check the collection’s rights information and the individual material before downloading, sampling, or distributing a recording. The concert photograph is an editorial illustration of listening together, not an image of the archive.
