What this edition stores
Reading preferences, saved article identifiers, and word-game progress can be stored in your browser on this device. There are no reader accounts, payments, newsletter subscriptions, or mailbox registrations in this edition. Names typed into the mail preview are not submitted to a server.
Local weather
Location permission is requested only when you choose “Use my location.” Coordinates are rounded to approximately one-kilometer precision before being sent to our forecast service. We save that approximate location and your temperature-unit preference in this browser, and share the rounded coordinates with the National Weather Service to fetch a U.S. forecast. City and ZIP searches use a local lookup dataset. Use “Forget location” to remove your saved weather location. Forecast requests may appear in infrastructure logs; we do not maintain a personal location-history database.
Video voting
Best of YouTube uses an anonymous browser cookie to remember your votes. We store that random identifier, the video identifier, your vote, and its update time on our server. Vote totals are public; your browser identifier is not. You can undo a vote by tapping it again. Clearing cookies removes the browser’s access to its previous votes, but does not remove those votes from totals.
Infrastructure and external services
Our hosting infrastructure processes requests and may retain operational and security logs, including network information. Photographs load from Unsplash, which receives the requests needed to display them. YouTube thumbnails load from YouTube’s image service. When you open a video watch page or press play in the collection, an embedded YouTube player loads and YouTube receives the requests needed for playback, under its own privacy policy. Weather and RSS requests are fetched by our server. Outbound links take you to sites with their own policies.
Analytics and advertising
We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-BNG46VY13Z) to understand visits and how the site is used. Google Analytics can set cookies and receive information about your browser, device, pages visited, and interactions. Google processes this information under its own privacy policy. We do not send your Plate Play answer to Google Analytics. Sponsor positions are available but do not imply an active paid advertiser.
Your choices
Clear site data in your browser to remove saved preferences, bookmarks, and daily game results. Plate Play results stay on this device and do not sync across browsers. Words entered for checking are sent to our server for dictionary validation; we do not store those submissions in an application database. You can block analytics through your browser settings or an analytics blocker. You can read without signing in. We will update this notice before introducing accounts, email subscriptions, payments, or materially different data use.
